Cataloochee Overlook

This overlook, in a not often-visited part of The Great Smoky Mountains National Park, provides beautiful vistas over the Big Cataloochee and Little Cataloochee Valleys and to the mountains beyond.

To reach the Cataloochee Overlook from:

I 40: take US 276 South (Exit 20) and shortly you will see a small road sign for Cove Creek Road and a Historical Marker. Turn right on Cove Creek Road.

US 19: take US 276 North and as you approach I 40 you will see a small road sign for Cove Creek Road and a Historical Marker. Turn left on Cove Creek Road.

After 1.4 miles you will see a small sign for Cataloochee and 2.3 miles later the two lane blacktop turns to a 1 1/2 lane gravel road (It's a steep climb and you will swear you are getting lost; enjoy the views and have faith!). Some 2 miles later you will enter the Park and 2 miles later the road becomes blacktop again. The overlook is on your right.

After enjoying the view continue into the Big Cataloochee and Little Cataloochee Valleys: see the Day Trip Mountain History - Cherokee, Mountain Homestead, Mingus Mill, Cataloochie.
